Description
Light Gauge Steel Roof Truss System – Strong, Lightweight & Durable. The Light Gauge Steel (LGS) Roof Truss System is a cutting-edge roofing solution engineered from cold-formed galvanized steel. Designed to replace traditional timber structures, this system offers superior strength, dimensional accuracy, and resistance to termites, fire, and moisture. It’s ideal for both residential and commercial roofing in Kenya, especially in areas where long spans, minimal maintenance, and fast project turnaround are essential.
Product Features of Steel Roof Trusses
- Made from Alu-Zinc or galvanized steel (C-sections, U-sections)
- Up to 60% lighter than timber, yet significantly stronger
- Pre-engineered for precision using architectural drawings
- Fire-resistant, termite-proof, and corrosion-resistant
- Assembled using self-drilling screws, not nails
- Delivered to site in ready-to-install kits
Assembly Components Explained
- C-Channel Profiles (C75, C100, C150) – Main structural members for trusses and rafters. Cold-formed from galvanized steel.
- U-Tracks / Bottom Tracks – Serve as guides and supports for vertical truss members
- Battens / Purlins – Horizontal members fixed on trusses to support roofing sheets
- Bracing Members – Diagonal or horizontal members to provide stability and prevent swaying
- Cleats and Connectors – Galvanized brackets and plates used at joints for secure anchoring
- Self-Drilling Screws (Tek Screws) – Used to fasten all components together. Corrosion-resistant and secure
- Anchor Bolts / Base Plates – Connect the steel structure to concrete or masonry walls.
Installation Procedure
- Site Preparation & Base Setting – Ensure the ring beam or wall top is level and Mark anchor bolt positions for fixing base plates.
- Truss Assembly (on ground or elevated scaffold) – Assemble trusses using C-sections, U-tracks, and screws. Include all diagonal bracings and tie members
- Truss Lifting and Positioning – Carefully lift assembled trusses into position
- Secure them to the base plates or wall using anchor bolts – Fixing of Purlins / Battens. Install purlins across trusses at designated intervals. These will support the roof covering (e.g., iron sheets or tiles)
- Cross Bracing and Final Alignment – Install cross bracings for lateral stability. Check for alignment and correct spacing
- Roof Sheet Installation—Fix roofing material (iron sheets, tiles, or stone-coated). Could you ensure proper overlap and sealing?
- Finishing Touches – Add ridge caps, fascia boards, and rainwater systems as needed.
Benefits of Steel Roof Truss System
- Faster installation with minimal on-site cutting
- Maintenance-free compared to timber alternatives
- Dimensionally stable – no warping or twisting
- Ideal for large-span roofing, multi-story buildings, and prefab projects
