Gypsum Board Prices in Kenya

Gypsum board prices in Kenya varies based on multiple aspects including, quality, size and technical specifications. Other names of a gypsum board are plasterboard, drywall or sheetrock. For commercial construction, architects are always keen to specify acurate requirements for gypsum based building materials putting into consideration factors such as fire resistance, moisture resistance, strength and durability.

Such technical specifications are not keenly adhered to in residential construction either due to budget constrains or lack of technical knowledge or ignorance from respective builders. At gypsum ceiling supplies we sell all gypsum related materials including quality gypsum boards. Gypsum board sizes available in our stores countrywide are 2400mmx1200mmx9mm gypsum boards suitable for ceiling systems and 2400mmx1200mmx12.5mm gypsum boards suitable for both partitioning and ceiling systems

What is Gypsum?

Gypsum is a light weight material which is formed as the result of evaporating sea water in massive prehistoric basins. In terms of its chemical composition, it is Calcium Sulphate Di-hydrate (CaSO4.2H2O) and inherently contains 21% water by molecular weight.
Gypsum products have been used for centuries in the construction space and are the material of choice because of gypsum’s unique properties. It has excellent insulation properties both thermal and acoustic and can offer very good passive fire protection, moisture resistance, impact resistance and vapour control when used in combination with the right systems.

How is Gypsum Board Manufactured?

ASTM standards govern the manufacture of gypsum board and set strict criteria for strength, water resistance, and other characteristics. To produce gypsum board, crushed natural gypsum or synthetic gypsum is heated or calcined to dehydrate the feedstock. Next the calcined gypsum is mixed with water and additives to form a slurry which is fed between continuous layers of recycled paper on a long board machine.

As the board moves down a conveyer line, the calcium sulfate recrystallizes or rehydrates, reverting to its original rock state. The paper becomes chemically and mechanically bonded to the core. The board is then cut to length and conveyed through dryers to remove any free moisture.
